How To Use Coconut Oil for Hair Growth

How To Use Coconut Oil For Hair Growth

Using coconut oil for hair growth is simple to do. You will want to begin by shampooing and conditioning the hair as you normally would. Next, you will scoop a small amount of coconut oil into a small bowl.

Only a small amount is needed. Using an excessive amount of coconut oil will not make the hair grow faster. If you begin to notice that the amount you are placing in your hair is not doing much good, you can gradually increase the amount.

Place that bowl into a larger bowl. Fill the large bowl with hot water, submerging the smaller bowl. No water should be able to get into the smaller bowl. Within minutes, your coconut oil will begin to melt.

Make sure the hair does not have any tangles in it. Then you may apply the melted coconut oil to your hair, starting at the scalp. Make sure you apply it to the entire scalp, even on the underside.

A good tip is to flip the head upside down in order to reach this part. It is recommended to take a minute or two to give the entire scalp a massage with the fingertips.

Once the oil has been applied to the entire scalp, you can wrap it in a shower cap. Sleep with the oil on overnight, otherwise leave it on the hair for at least one hour.

In the morning, you can wash the hair once again to remove excess oil from the scalp and hair. For best results, use a shampoo that is chemical free. Leave the shampoo on for five minutes to dissolve the oil, and then rinse clean.

Coconut oil for hair growth can be used every day if desired. However, to see the best results, it is recommended to do it every two to three days.

Eating Coconut Oil For Hair Growth

Coconut oil can be taken internally for hair growth as well. The antioxidants and it’s high Medium Chain Fatty Acid content can make the hair grow from the inside out. Some individuals mix a spoonful with their morning coffee while others use the oil to cook with. No matter how you use the oil, it will benefit your hair.

Benefits of Using Coconut Oil On The Hair

Using coconut oil on the hair has some huge benefits. As stated above, coconut oil for hair growth is one reason why so many women go crazy over this amazing oil. Not only will the hair be longer, it will be thicker and stronger as well. The scalp will be moisturized and nourished, and any build up from styling products can be removed.

You may be surprised to know that coconut oil can help fight against dandruff.

Using the steps above, apply the coconut oil to your hair. Sleep with the oil on the scalp. In the morning, you can massage the scalp with a few tablespoons of Epsom salt, and then shampoo the hair as usual. This will remove the dead skin cells that the coconut oil has dissolved from the scalp.

Many do not realize that coconut oil is anti-bacterial. The scalp can harbor bacteria, as can the hair itself. Coconut oil will protect the hair and scalp from not only dandruff, but also from lice. Either of these two things can affect how the hair grows.

This very versatile oil can be used on the hair to prevent breakage. Even if the hair is excessively damaged, coconut oil can repair it. Dry, brittle hair will be fully moisturized after only using one or two treatments. Essential nutrients will be delivered to the hair shaft, repairing hair to how it was intended to grow.

Coconut oil also has an SPF of 8. If you are headed to the beach or are spending all day poolside, you can benefit by combing coconut oil through the hair, paying attention to the scalp.

Other Ingredients To Use With Coconut Oil

When using coconut oil for hair growth, there are some other natural ingredients that can be mixed with this oil to make the hair respond faster. Coconut oil and honey offers a great treatment for the hair, as does this combination mixed with yogurt.

Coconut oil for hair growth is a secret that many have used in the past. The coconut oil will make the hair look soft and shiny. It will also be more manageable and less likely to tangle. This all-natural hair growth remedy is one that you recommend to your friends as it will yield amazing results.

  1. Very interesting article there,

I was aware that coconut oil was beneficial for increasing fat burning within the body, can kill harmful pathogens found in the body and can raise the good cholesterol – but I had no idea that it could this sort of effect on hair!

Does it have any other benefits for hair (i.e. can it be used as a conditioner etc)?

    1. Chris there are many shampoos and conditioners that have coconut oil and coconut milk in them. Coconut really nourishes and moisturizes hair and skin which makes it a very popular natural beauty product. I love that I can use it for everything from eating it, to using it in my beauty routine!

  2. I surfed around some more articles on your website. The nicest thing about coconut oil is that you can use it internally and externally. One product, suitable for cooking and baking and for your skin and your hair. I am a person who loves simplicity. My hair can be very fluffy, if so, I will try coconut oil. Thank you!

    1. Loes you are spot on there, coconut oil is so versatile and I make use of it every single day when it comes to cooking and beauty!

  3. Wow I have used coconut oil for cooking almost exclusively now for about three years as the benefits are so numerous to ones health. Now I have one more reason to keep using it. I will definitely be trying this on my hair,I never knew that it would help with my brittle hair and split ends.Plus it seems as I get older I have more thinning hair. Have you tried it,how were your results from the coconut oil?

    1. Cathy I love it, I use coconut oil on my hair once a week on myself and both my kids. Every Friday night while we are watching our Friday night family film I put it in our hair. I let it soak overnight and wash it out on a Saturday. It has thickened my daughter’s hair considerably since I started putting it on her hair at the beginning of this year and her hair has grown a lot! My hair is not so dry or frizzy anymore.

I also use coconut oil in my green tea for weight loss, I cook with it and I use it for my skin. I don’t think there is a more versatile or well used product in my entire home!
