What Causes Wrinkles?

Wrinkles are folds, creases and ridges in the skin that develop as people get older. It is a completely natural part of the aging process.

As you age your skin gets less elastic, thinner and drier. These factors contribute to causing wrinkles.

There are many things along with age that determine when and where a person will start developing wrinkles, such as smoking, sun damage, environmental and genetic factors, as well as some medications too.

Wrinkles usually start on the face, neck and hands first since these are the areas that are most exposed to the sun. Wrinkles on the face first usually start appearing as a result of facial expressions. You must have heard of people referring to laugh lines before.

Each time you move your face the muscles leave a groove under the skin. A young person that has supple and smooth skin will have their skin spring back easily but with an older person you will start to see the effects of the skin not being able to move back and those grooves become permanent.

The prevention and removal of wrinkles , as well as anti-aging treatments are a billion dollar industry worldwide.

How Does Coconut Oil Help Prevent Wrinkles?

Coconut oil is known to have anti-inflammatory properties. Factors that damage the skin, such as the sun, smoke, pollution, infections, and acne can all benefit from using this miracle oil.

When coconut oil is applied to the face, it can shield any damage that causes wrinkles.
As coconut oil is very moisturizing, it will prevent wrinkles by keeping the skin well hydrated.

Skin will remain full of elastic, which will keep the skin from wanting to wrinkle or fold. This
miracle oil also contains anti-oxidants, which are very important for fighting off free radicals.

Free radicals are known to cause pre-mature skin aging, as well as damage the skin cells.
When coconut oil is applied to the skin, it will help to remove any dead skin cells. New skin
cells will then be replaced, which will rejuvenate the skin, making it look younger.

Coconut oil is gentle to the skin, yet is very effective when it comes to exfoliating it. There are harmful UVA and UVB rays in the sun. Did you know that when coconut oil is used
on the skin, the skin is better protected against these rays? Skin damage that has been caused by the sun can also be reversed when this oil is applied. Not only can wrinkles be prevented, but age spots, freckles, and hyper pigmentation can be undone.

Coconut oil contains vitamin A. This vitamin will help to boost collagen production, which will help to prevent wrinkles. It also contains vitamin E, which helps make new skin cells. The lauric acid in the oil will help repair any damage on the skin, which will in turn prevent aging.

If you use coconut oil on the face, you will notice an improvement in blood circulation. This
will assist in producing more collagen in the face. Collagen helps the skin maintain firmness, which will help to prevent wrinkles from starting.

One great way to prevent wrinkles using coconut oil is to mix equal parts of coconut oil with Aloe Vera gel. The gel will help make the skin flawless as it contains malic acid, and the coconut oil will work on preventing wrinkles. Allow the mask to dry and then rinse off with cool water.

How Does Coconut Oil Reduce Wrinkles?

Coconut oil is a safe and effective way to reduce wrinkles. When using coconut oil, you will
notice it melts right into the skin. It will not leave a residue, and it will moisturize the skin on a deep level. What this means for wrinkles is that they are reduced, as the skin will begin to plump up. The collagen in the skin will be repaired, and the skin will smooth the wrinkles out.

This healing oil is cost effective when it comes to reducing wrinkles. Only a tiny bit is needed for each application, so a jar will last quite a long time.

One great tip for reducing wrinkles is to add a few drops of coconut oil to your regular
moisturizer. This will give it an extra punch in fighting and reducing wrinkles on the face. You may also wish to add some of this oil to your lotions for your hands and body to help ward off any wrinkles there.

To reduce wrinkles, mix cinnamon powder with a bit of coconut oil. Apply to the face, leave on for a few minutes, and then rinse with cool water. As cinnamon is anti-inflammatory, it can help treat wrinkles.

How To Use Coconut Oil For Wrinkles

Coconut oil is safe for anyone to use, even those with sensitive skin. It is hypo-allergenic and is an all-natural product. There are no extra preservatives added to this oil, nor are there any chemicals.

The best type of coconut oil for wrinkles is organic. Look for one that is virgin that is in the
most unprocessed state. If desired, you can also make your own coconut oil from fresh coconuts.

To use this oil for the face, you will want to start with a cleansed face that is dry. Make sure all make up, dirt, and oil are removed from the face before starting.

Once the face has been cleansed, you can apply the coconut oil to the face with your fingertips.

Be gentle and use circular motions. Allow the oil to be fully absorbed into your skin for at least one hour. If desired, you may leave the oil on your face overnight. However, if you are worried about oily skin or pimples forming from the oil, you can lightly pat the skin to remove the oil after the one-hour mark.

It is also recommended to use coconut oil as an under eye moisturizer. This can be applied twice per day. You can also use coconut oil on other areas of the body, such as the hands and neck, to prevent wrinkles.

You may also find adding other natural ingredients to the coconut oil is very beneficial. Some ingredients that can be used are:

  • One vitamin E capsule – Mixing this capsule with a few drops of organic coconut oil will
help skin with dryness. As vitamin E contains tocopherol, it will revive dull and aging
  • Turmeric – Mixing a pinch of this spice with a tablespoon of coconut oil yields results that are amazing. The turmeric will help with free radicals, which will greatly protect the skin. Collagen production will be enhanced, which will lead to better skin elasticity.
  • Honey – Adding ½ teaspoon to one tablespoon of coconut oil will heal damaged skin,
which will not only add radiance to the skin, but in time, remove wrinkles.
  • Lemon juice and milk – Adding a few drops of lemon juice with a teaspoon of milk and a tablespoon of coconut oil will tighten the pores and cleanse the skin. Wrinkles will be
removed as the skin’s elasticity will improve.

  1. What super information on Coconut Oil for wrinkles.  I use coconut oil for cooking since is has zero additives (I know it’s different- but I’m a believer).  I love the direction of going with natural ingredients in everyday living.  I appreciate the tip on using Turmeric as another natural ingredient to add – my wife will love that idea to try.

You mentioned that Coconut Oil aids in the replenishment of collagen.  I was wondering if you know whether this comes from the oil itself…or if the oil stimulates your body into producing more naturally?  Thanks again for another great article!

    1. Here’s what I found on ncbi about Collagen and Coconut Oil:

CO-treated wounds healed much faster, as indicated by a decreased time of complete epithelization and higher levels of various skin components. Pepsin-soluble collagen showed a significant increase in VCO- treated wounds, indicating a higher collagen cross-linking. Glycohydrolase activities were also found to be increased due to a higher turnover of collagen. Antioxidant enzyme activities, and reduced glutathione and malondialdehyde levels were found to be increased on the 10th day after wounding, which were found to have returned to normal levels on day 14 in the treated wounds. The lipid peroxide levels were found to be lower in the treated wounds. A histopathological study showed an increase in fibroblast proliferation and neovascularization in VCO-treated wounds compared to controls.

The beneficial effect of VCO can be attributed to the cumulative effect of various biologically active minor components present in it.
